Remembering my beautiful Mother-In-Law

"With every breath I will chase hope until it denies me" -Helen Marie Sattel

Tomorrow marks 2 years since my beautiful Mother-in-Law lost her battle to ALS (alsa.org). I just wanted to take a moment and remember her and everything I've learned and am thankful for because of her, even though I only knew her a short time.

I'm so thankful for the humor, heart, compassion, smiles, and pure joy she instilled in the lives of my husband, Chris, and my Sattel family. Every day there are moments that happen, and I think "Wow, thank you for that"...whether it be a prank my husband plays on me or simply the joy of giving to others or having spontaneous super-fun family days...it is all from her.

She was a fighter, a believer, a joker, a lover, kind-hearted, passionate...and she had great taste in music! :) She had such an infectious, gorgeous smile (as you can see in the photo), even in the midst of the trials and hardships ALS brought her.

Although we all miss her, and the pain of her loss stings - especially in the hearts of this new family I love so much - it's awesome to think of her in heaven, whole and healed, showing the angels a thing or two on how to truly enjoy life and laugh.

Helen, beautiful yellow rose, you are an inspiration to me and your memory will hold true in our hearts for always. I can't wait to get to know you better when I come to join you in heaven.

In memory of a beautiful woman, mother, wife, and mema.

Changes are coming...

I'm so excited to be changing Someday Photography to Brittany Michelle Photo. It's always fun to re-invent yourself, and I'm super stoked to see what my good friend Aimee comes up with for my new look!

She did all my Someday Photography stuff, and she's SO talented. Beyond that, she makes really fun stuff too! Check her out at eeludesign.com!

Until then, I'm slowly changing stuff over...including simplifying this blog. You'll notice it's not quite as pretty, and it doesn't have a sweet logo, but it will! Oh yes...it will!

Cuh-Razy Awesomeness!

This week is basically going to be an 11 on the Radness Scale. Why? Well, we are finally going on vacation!! :) SO, with this spare time and relaxation ensuing, I'll be able to do lots of fun photog stuff!

I'll be finishing up editing/posting more of Brandon and Ariel's wonderful wedding, so be excited for that! The photos are turning out really cool, and I'm excited by that. AND the Party Booth is turning out GREAT too, so be ready for a really cool treat on the blog with that.

I'll be on vacation in Denver, which is a beautiful and wonderful place for me to take some photos! I'm really excited... especially for Boulder...there's a TON of really great buildings and unique people. I'll be snapping away - so I'll post some photos as I go. :)

Finally, I'll be working on and finally doing a post on Aaron's Album Shoot. We went to a really rad location, shown to us by the fabulous Amelia & Justin Lyon. (See the below photos for a glimpse at our day...ignore my windblown mop I call hair!)

So, needless to say, this should be a cuh-razy awesome week of blog posts. :)

Until then, Happy Easter to all!!!!

Exciting Week Ahead!!!!

So, I'm a bundle of nerves and excitement and all sorts of other emotions that are controlling my brain. I have TWO super fab, potentially magical shoots coming up.

The first is this Sunday. One of my husband and my closest friends is recording an album (He's UBER talented), and I get the blessing of shooting his cover. What's even more fun is that he pretty much is giving us creative freedom to try a TON of different locations, concepts, and times of day to create something perfect for him and exciting for us! SO, that'll be fun.

OH and I rented a bunch of super nice lenses (I can't quite afford the good glass yet!) for these shoot from borrowlenses.com. They have been great and I am BEYOND stoked to work my camera with some nice glass attached. The lenses should be on my doorstep tomorrow....stooooked! :)

Anyways, my second shoot is a HUGE milestone for me...dun, dun, dunnnn....MY FIRST WEDDING. :::The crowd ooooh's and aaaaah's::: (I know, I'm a dork)

Up until now, I've taken mostly family portraits, maternity and baby shoots, and things similar to that. All that is great and I love it, but I've really wanted to break into the wedding realm of photography...mostly because I'm a HUGE sap who totally believes in fairy tales and love and all the mushy geekness. So, taking pictures of that fits me perfectly!

I'm so excited because it's for my super cool friends, Brandon and Ariel. I have know Brandon since I was 14 and Ariel since I was 18. They are two super rad, cool people who are having SUCH a unique, fun wedding. I'm so excited that they asked me to do this, and I'm excited to create some amazing images for them.

But here is where my nerves come in to play...I've been having nightmares, literally - wake me up from my sleep shaking nightmares - about screwing things up! Crazy I know. Last night's had something to do with Ariel's goldfish that is part of a song in the ceremony that I kill...there's no goldfish. WHERE did the goldfish come from?! And what does that have to do with taking photos?! Haha.

Oh well, needless to say I have a lot of emotions around this shoot - but I think that will mean I will put a LOT of heart and care into each shot. So, stay tuned for two super awesome posts popping up in the next couple of weeks!

The other side of the lens...

So a few months back, I was browsing one of the many blogs I "stalk", amelialyon.net. As I was reading through the posts, I came across one that stirred my heart in a very personal way.

Amelia shared with her entire blogging community (a LOT of super talented photogs and super lucky clients) that her dad had been diagnosed with ALS, Lou Gehrig's Disease. As most of you know already, that is the disease that took Chris' mother in May of 2007.

Chris and I immediately felt led to help them out in any way possible, and were able to find out that his father still had his mother's wheelchair and lift available, so we offered it up to them. Knowing how difficult the journey ahead of the family was going to be, it was such a blessing to be able to help at all.

Well, much to our surprise, honor, and completely humble gratitude, they offered us a photo shoot with them. Being one of their biggest fans, I was completely stoked! Not only for the amazing photos, but also for a chance to hang out with some of my big time influences.

We had so much fun...they are so laid back and energetic...and freak hilarious! We were laughing so much, I didn't know when to smile, laugh, or give my "serious face." Haha. I knew the images were going to be fantastic, but they blew our minds anyway!

I've posted a few of my faves (it was SO hard to narrow), but check out the rest on their blog: amelialyon.net. And check out the other amazing work they do...in fact, add them to your blog reader right NOW! :D

Amelia and Justin, thank you so much! It was so fun and it's such a blessing to call you our friends! We look forward to hanging out sometime soon (Disneyland perhaps?).

Enjoy! B

I never Blog...FAIL!

Well, for someone whose technical day job is as a writer, I sure don't write very much! As I sat staring at my way too bright for me computer screen, I wondered why...

If you know me at all, you know that my mind thinks in major train-type actions...one thought leads to the next to the next to the next...and then I'm off - away to my thoughts. I thought, Maybe I am afraid I'll be boring. I think of myself as a fairly clever gal - until I start trying to be clever. So then I realize, blogging my thoughts - to me - is like trying to be clever. And trying to be clever means I'll make no sense and that's no good!

Oh goodness... SEE! I'm doing it now! Blabbermouth. I speak this way too, ya know. In fact, just yesterday I was saying the my husband has ADD Brain and I have ADD Mouth so when the two collide, sometimes it just doesn't work out! Haha. Okay. Anyway.

I have a lot of super awesome shoots coming up...including my FIRST wedding! My good friends from forever ago are getting married on April Fool's Day and asked me to shoot the exciting day. I'm so stoked...it's going to be such a fun, laid back, relaxed wedding with fun family and friends. Woot!

Beyond that, I have a few potential clients I'm excited about. I won't talk about it now (don't want to jinx it!!) but if it all works out, I'll be swimming in giddiness. ;)

Well, I hope my random ramblings haven't come across completely moronic! <winks>

Until later...

HAPPY NEW YEAR from my hubby and me. :)
SNOW DAY!

So, for the first time since I moved here we got SNOWWW! I love snow! Our backyard is currently going on like a foot or something - it's nutso.

SOOOo, when we got home we had to introduce little Lucy to her first snow day...a little background: She hates water...warm water, shower water, sink water...if she's not drinking it, she wants nothing to do with it.

Well, surprise, surprise! She LOVES frozen snow that falls from the sky! So here's our lil' family snow day in the back yard. :)

Woooot!

I love my family!! :)

I got the chance to take a couple of family photos for my Sister-in-Law, her hubby, and the kiddos...I love them. SO fun and laid back!! :)

Unfortunately the time we went made it difficult to get amazing shots, but I got a couple that were neat! :)

Love you guys! Can't wait to shoot you again!
